Living Rooms

There is a stillness

A comfort, security, spirit-rest to the space

Of a room for gathering.

Couches cradle friends

Feet plant on carpets

And dim lights reflect on different places

This is where I long to be

This circle of shared space

I’ve seen things here

Prayer

Laughter

Children squirming

Sleep after Sunday meals

Board games and charades

Discussions and debates

Over coffee, wine and sweet tea

Little wooden tables hold mugs

And friends lean in friends

Family rests on family

It’s a quiet space for existing

Outside of jobs, dining table chaos and pretension.

It’s far from the moving, cooking, creating spaces

It’s an exchange.

Center of the house

Often some ugly wallpaper or strange decoration

Yet full of warmth and please stay awhile
