Love that Brings Strength

You make it difficult to breathe and I like it
Oxygen flows only slowly to my brain
Dizzying with thoughts that are not plain
my mind functions short and heart triple-steps
I’m leaning and falling and hoping for the best
you’re beaming and leaning your head upon my chest
my arms are wrapping themselves around your fortress
we’re clinging to passion and seeking out some rest
we’re using the silence and darkness to build a nest
we’re touching skin scarred by another’s caress
I stand from my east and stare into your west
my mountains are steep, you stand upon a crest
your valleys are deep, I want to be their mist
we would not weep; we were built to test
the fortitude of bridges, needing to be blessed
rivers flow underneath; we’re hoping for the best
